Make Mosaic Christmas Trees

Instead of traditional table toppings, add a pinch of pizzazz by making these mirror mosaic trees! You can select tiles that work with your colour scheme.

The finished sizes of these trees are about 26, 33 and 38 cm (10, 13, and 15 inches) tall.

The number of tiles needed depends on the size of the cones used. For this project, we used about 800 silver 1 cm (1/2 inch) tiles, 200 blue 1 cm (1/2 inch) tiles and 33 silver 2.5 x 0.5 cm (1 x 1/4 inch) tiles.

Materials List

1 cm (1/2 inch) square and 2.5 x 0.5 cm (1 x 1/4 inch) rectangular mirror tiles in silver and shades of blue (see note at end)
Double-sided tape, 1 cm (1/2 inch) wide
23, 30 and 38 cm (9, 12 and 15 inch) Styrofoam cone shapes
Small silver ball ornaments for tree toppers
Craft glue

Step 1

Wash mirror tiles in warm water and dishwashing detergent. Let dry.

Step 2

Place a strip of double-sided tape around the bottom of one cone. Stick silver and blue 1 cm (1/2 inch) square mirror tiles onto the tape in a random order. Place another strip of tape around the cone above the first row of tiles. Stick tiles onto the tape as before. Continue adding tiles until all but about 1 cm (1/2 inch) at the top of the cone is covered with tiles.

Step 3

Apply tape around the top of the cone, as before. Stick 2.5 x 0.5 cm (1 x 1/4 inch) tiles vertically around the top of the tree. Glue a silver ball ornament on top. Repeat the process with the other two Styrofoam cones.
